Unit 5 - Exercise 1/2

Exercise 1 - Understand the use of Sound and Music in Games.

Fallout 4 uses dialog to present information in order to progress into the game and open different quests in the game, it is important that you speak to the NPC's to open side quests as they give you certain loot that could help for the main story-line, they have solved a indirect problem with navigation by hinting where to go using the in game characters.
Rainbow 6 siege also uses sound to convey information as their is a certain way how the bullets work and you can tell where the bullets are coming from, also footsteps are important and heavy in the game so you can hear your enemies.
In darksiders 2 the game has an iconic crow which will navigate you towards the right direction if you are lost or stuck, this solves the sense of direction for players instead of using the complex map.

Exercise 2 - Understanding Sound Design Theory.

Music and sound effects are important within game development as they play a big role in mood and feeling in the game, for instance if you're developing a horror game a knocking door can suggest something is going to happen, or can tell you that someone is near, and changing the pitch of an audio clip can suggest something bad is going to happen.
Music is important in gaming as it sets the mood within the atmosphere of playing the game, some games will switch from calm music to intense music suggesting that something like a fight is about to break out.
Waveform is a way of measuring certain things such as sound and vibration, the bigger the wave the longer/louder the sound or vibration.
Foley is recording of a sound for a movie in a sound proofed room in order to get clear audio.
